After killing at least eight people, evacuation orders and warnings for the Palisades Fire expanded over the weekend, with strong winds forecast through Wednesday.

Massive fires continue burning after igniting in the foothills of Pacific Palisades, and Altadena, forcing thousands to evacuate amid a life-threatening and destructive windstorm slamming Southern California.

Los Angeles was braced for wildfires to get even worse Monday with the National Weather Service warning of "extremely dangerous" fire conditions.

The Palisades Fire – the largest blaze – has killed at least five people. The Eaton Fire, above Altadena in northern Los Angeles County, has killed at least six people and burned more than 21 square miles, leaving apocalyptic scenes of destruction.

The most serious red flag fire weather warning has been issued by the NWS for swaths of L.A. and Ventura counties starting before dawn Tuesday.

The latest warnings will be in place from early Tuesday morning until noon on Wednesday, when gusts from 45 to 70 miles an hour are expected to batter the region. While not as severe as those last week, which fueled the destructive Palisades and Eaton fires, these winds still pose a significant threat that large fires may spread quickly.

There are reports of soaring rental prices as 105,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders, and an additional 87,000 are under evacuation warnings.

At 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the City of Santa Monica issued a new Evacuation Order due to the ongoing Palisades Fire.
